One Distracting Acorn

arrows

Ever have one of those days or SEVERAL of them when the enemy is just pelting you with everything he has and the pain is so deep you don’t know what to do?  Late for work. Car accident. Sick kid. Fight with spouse.  Rains on your outdoor plans. Over due bills.  Surprise debt.  The washer begins to leak.  The children are fighting.  Just one thing after another with no end in sight.  Yup!  Those are called fiery darts from the enemy.  Things to keep us distracted and defeated.  Ways of grabbing our attention to everything negative.

You may wonder why the title of this blog today is about acorns, well this is how God works for me.  I am currently in a campground in Michigan and it’s officially fall and the acorns are coming down like a severe rain storm.  It’s like living in the middle of a war zone and you are dodging bullets.  Okay I may be exaggerating a wee bit, but they are coming down all around us.  So this inspired me to speak about darts because this morning on our little texting group someone was under attack and I began to put two and two together with the acorn bombs going on around here.

Everyday the enemy bombards us with arrows.  Some of them are physical problems like our cars or appliances and others are mental defeats.  We get so bogged down and bruised, battered and beat up over things that realistically we should be giving over to God.  If we believe that it was all done at the cross then we must begin to understand that the devil has already lost the battle and he is doing his best just to annoy us and divert our attention.  We need to learn to use the greatest weapon we have in our possession: WORSHIP.

Worship is defined as:

Reverent honor and homage paid to God or a sacred personage, or to any object regarded as sacred.
Okay, this may ruffle some feathers but just hang out with me for a minute.  So how do we respond for instance when the car breaks down?  Honest first reaction..anger, frustration, focused on the problem? Am I correct in most cases?  We get caught up in the tragedy of the situation that we forget about the goodness of God momentarily.  Not many of us think to praise or worship God in the heat of the moment of our car becoming unusable, instead we begin to speak at the devil or the object and we actually fuel the fire the devil is trying to get started.  What happens when someone says a harsh word to us?  Do we immediately begin to proclaim who God says we are or do we receive the sting of the words just spoken?  Do get what I am trying to say?
So often we embrace the negativeness of the issue before we even think about applying God to our situation.  We get so caught up in the injustice of what is happening we forget we have the best ammunition in the world!  Praise and Worship!  If we could only wrap our minds around this we could begin to see positive actions in the fiery darts and send them right back to the enemy.  If the definition of worship is to honor then we need to address the situation right away with honoring God.  Thank Him for the car.  Thank Him that He is sending help to fix it.  Thank Him for being your provider.  When we do this we ignore the enemy and eventually get to the point were we don’t notice the darts as attacks but as opportunities rather to honor God.
Lord, teach us today the power of worship.  Let us begin to flow with praise and worship in any situation.  We acknowledge Father that You are our provider and the devil has no business messing with us.  Today we choose to praise and worship in every situation which arises which comes up in our lives.  We go into each day with our heads held high and our shields of worship raised.  Thank You for loving us and taking such good care of us everyday.  In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.

Impossible Impossibilities

Luke 1:36-38

“And did you know that your cousin Elizabeth conceived a son, old as she is? Everyone called her barren, and here she is six months pregnant! Nothing, you see, is impossible with God.” And Mary said, Yes, I see it all now: I’m the Lord’s maid, ready to serve. Let it be with me just as you say. Then the angel left her.
Bridge2
Satan is a good user of smoke screens…did you know that?  He can make the easiest thing look completely impossible.  He will do everything in his power to make what God has for us look like something we don’t even desire for our lives.  He wants us to miss out on the things God has for us so he creates these smoke screens in front of us to block the vision. He does not want us to stop and rest and see the bridge that is just steps away from us.  He still does not realize that he has already lost the battle.
Often it takes taking a moment to connect the dots to really see what God is up to.  Sometimes He gives us parts and pieces to our plan and purpose.  He might give us a piece on Monday and then let you try to figure it out and then give you another part on Thursday.  Perhaps then it might take hours, days or even weeks before you begin to see the whole thing pan out right in front of you.  As you begin to see how the “dots” or events connect to make a very clear picture, your faith increases and wisdom is gained.
God uses this tactic with me often, which means I have a lot of “A-Ha” moments.  Sometimes I feel like I should have figured it out sooner and then I realize the enemy is just trying to erase my dots.  He does not want us to come to the full revelation of what God has in store for us.  He delights in our delays and set backs.  But, you see, I by faith know God has a better outcome for any situation than I can ever dream of.  He longs to give us things and lavish upon us His riches…we just need to be walking it out with faith.
Finding your bridge in the fog and then taking that first step can be tricky. The devil will do everything he can to cause you to stumble.  He is good at instilling fear for situations and that is why from the first step on the bridge to the last we have to trust in God to guide our steps.  We need to believe in the plan.  We need to know we are winners.  We need to know that we know that we know that we know God is once again in control.  He is really good at making what seems impossible, completely possible….every time.

After the Rain

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21 NLT

???????????????????????????????

After the rain pours out on the earth, things come to life.  Dry flowers are quenched of their thirst.  The soil soaks up the refreshment poured upon it.  The birds come to play in the little puddles.  Children come to make mud pies and jump and play, splashing water everywhere.  Everything just comes to a place of hydration and peace.  Things begin to grow and roots become stronger.  Is it not the same with God?  Let me explain.

I have been attending revival meetings now since 2009.  The first one I attended was 54 days long and changed my life completely.  As I spent night after night in worship and spending time on the floor in prayer, God was able to change my thinking in several areas of my life.  As He poured into me, I grew.  I opened my heart like a flower seeking to be drenched by love.  I finally could see the call God had on my life.  I knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that I had a purpose to fulfill.  After several months of intense one on one time with Jesus, I was ready to move into the things God had prepared for me.

Now here I am in 2013 and we are on the verge of revival breaking out all over the city and what is happening to me?  I am feeling nervous and excited all at the same time.  I know the time is nearing that I will have to get out of my box and declare my purpose.  I will soon be sharing Jesus with everyone I meet no matter where I am.  As we begin to settle into our new building smack dab in the center of the city, I get a front row seat to see just what God can do with little nobodies like me.  Why am I so scared?

Well, after being drenched by the raining down of His love all this time, I have become comfortable with this God I have been seeking.  I have been soaking in all of the teachings and reading His Word. I am filled from head to toe with the knowledge of Jesus and now it is my time to pour it all out.  So why am I in fear? Because part of me feels like if I empty it all out, I will never be full again.  This my friends is what we call discouragement and disbelief in what God can do.  It is what the enemy does to hold us back.  The last thing Satan wants to do is watch us spreading the Good News to everyone we meet so he gives us this lie that once we pour out God, we won’t be able to get a refill.  Pure lies.

I know in my heart of hearts that whatever I pour out in the name of Jesus, God will give me a refill every time I come before Him at the altar.  Just like tonight in a normal service, He poured His love all over the place and we had but to be still and allow Him to rain His grace upon our lives.  Are you dry and in need of a downpour in your spiritual life?  Then it’s as easy as saying, “Lord, fill me up, I am in need.”

Hole Perspective

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. Romans 8:1-2 NLT

???????????????????????????????

Raise your hand if you have every been picked on in your lifetime.  I can pretty much see by the show of hands that we have all been there before.  Lies and rumors and hurtful names can cut at you worse than actually being stabbed with a sharpened knife.  Kids tease and parents ridicule.  We get told we are not good enough or that we will not amount to anything.  We are bombarded with comments about our weight and overall appearance.  These are truly Satan’s attacks on our lives, especially since most of it occurs when we are very young and once the rejection sets in we begin to believe it to be true because it is all we know.

I was teased a lot in elementary school and it really destroyed me as a person until I got to high school.  I was called names and teased for my clothes.  My parents were not financially blessed but they did their best.  My mom shopped at Goodwill when it wasn’t cool, it was considered a place where you went when you were poor.  The other piece to the destruction to my self image was my dad at times would call me chubby and it quickly became who I was and I struggled in junior high to get rid of that feeling.  I ended up staying skinny but it wasn’t because I had healthy eating habits.  I still struggle sometimes today about my appearance but because I have learned to see myself as Jesus does, the pain is not there.

Just like a tree that has been pecked at over and over by the woodpecker, our souls begin to get holes in them.  The more we get teased, the more holes we accumulate and then pretty soon part of us begins to die and sometimes no matter how much someone tries to pour life back into us it just seeps out the holes.  We just no longer know how to receive anything good about ourselves, we have accepted all of those crazy lies and we have no idea how to stop the pain.  Just like in my blog the other day, we have to expose the roots and start forgiving those who have hurt us.

For me, it took forgiving a lot of people in my life and finally accepting myself for how God saw me.  I had to read His promises for my life to fill in the holes from the enemy and it was the only way for life to begin again in my soul.  If we dwell so much on what others say about us we will never see what God made us for.  We will never be able to experience love and acceptance.

Today, choose to forgive those who have put holes in your soul.  Begin today to see yourself as God does.  Let those who truly love you, pour into your soul and help you heal. Allow God to show you how He sees you.  Give yourself another chance to be a living member of society knowing where you stand with God.  You are a Son or Daughter of the Most High and He delights in everything about you!
