Darkness is a Way to Life

At noon the sky became extremely dark. The darkness lasted three hours. At three o’clock, Jesus groaned out of the depths, crying loudly, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”
When Jesus died on a cross to save mankind, there was three hours of darkness.  Three hours may not have seemed like a large span of time but do you realize all of the transformation which took place in three short hours?  Sometimes the evidence of darkness is the very thing we need in our lives.  Why?  Because in those darkened times we begin to search for the Light.
Why do we not believe that we are worth anything sometimes?  Why are we bogged down with statements such as these:  I am not good enough.  I will never amount to anything.  I can’t do anything right.  I am such a failure at life.    These words haunt millions of people everyday and it’s time we shed some Light on the subject.
Like the caterpillar we spend the beginning of our lives eating up all of the worlds media and what it says about people.  Media segregates people and puts them into groups according to what they see on the outside: black, while, Indian, mothers, fathers, children, work-a-holics, homeless, over-achievers…the lists are endless.  But in reality we are all unique on the inside.  Our opinions matter not because of what race we are or what part of society we belong to, but because each of us have value.
Where did we get so off course with our own identities?  So many of us wander around never knowing who we are.  We just keep eating and eating all of what the world has to offer because we are afraid that if we change we won’t be accepted anymore.  When in reality, we should be willing to accept that like the caterpillar we need to go through a transformation process.  We need to accept that at some point we have to pull away from the world and discover who God thinks we are.  We need to go into our cocoon process to discover this.  We have to be wiling to surrender what we think is life to be held in darkness for a moment so that we may emerge as the person God designed us to be.
If we never go through with the cocoon process we will always believe what the world says about us.  We will no longer have a desire to be all that we can be.  In fact, we will just continue to go with the flow with no regard for ourselves.

He Died

Isaiah 53 The Message (MSG)

53 Who believes what we’ve heard and seen?
Who would have thought God’s saving power would look like this?

(I would encourage you to read all of Isaiah 53)

Ever notice how things with God can sometimes be backwards?  He gave death to bring life.  He sent His only Son Jesus to die so that we may live.  There are times when I just don’t understand the whole deal, yet I am ever grateful for this opportunity of life.  I am thankful for the life I have been given so that in turn I can give life to the death in other’s lives.  From the moment I knew that I was to be a writer for Jesus, my one desire is to mend the hearts of the broken.  As I myself have healed from many hurts and wounds I want others to be made whole in His presence.  His grace is what pulled me out and it is by that same grace I write.

We were given life so that we can bring the revelation of life to others.  Today my husband and I visited a regular customer of mine who had recently been hospitalized.  Her and her husband have been in my drive thru every morning for the past two years and I felt compelled to visit her.  I brought her both copies of my books and we sat and chatted for awhile.  Then we prayed over her.  She was ever so touched by the mere fact that we stopped to see her.  This is the impact God wants us to make on the world.  I can’t tell you what compelled me to visit this person I knew nothing about, yet I know it brought some life to her day.

It’s always the little things that matter the most when it comes to showing love to someone.  Take for instance when my hubby picks one single flower and places it in my hair it is much more special than a dozen roses.  When someone just simply smiles randomly as you pass by it is way more appealing than just rushing right on by.  When someone stops to pick up something you dropped when they could have just walked away means more than them just ignoring it.  Do see what I am trying to say?  It is the little things which matter the most and those are the things I like to partake in.

So where am I going with this when Jesus dying on a cross was such a huge act of love?  Because with one death, the world gained life and for those who choose Life in Christ, they will see so much more come to pass in their lives than the ones who deny His very existence.  In death we find life.  In darkness we have found Light.  When we find death in our situations we get the option of shinning the Light of Jesus on it and moving forward.  We have the opportunity then to speak life into other’s darkness.  This is who I was designed to be through my writing.  I am able to shine a light where maybe only darkness brooded.

Can you be a Light to those around you?  What can you do to share Life?  Are you willing to allow Jesus to enter into your very own darkness?  Are you ready to let Him shine through you so that others can see just how much life they can have?  Everyday I strive to shine, some days it is not easy, yet it is by His grace I am able.  With His grace I can smile.  With His grace I can stop and help someone.  With His grace I can be a Light in such a darkened world.  If what I write changes one mindset today, God will have used me.  The key to all of it is…are you willing to be used?  Are you willing to let God bring life to your death?  Are you willing to be changed so God can use you to change others?  It’s tough at first I know but what joy comes when you see someone surface from darkness.  Are you somebody’s only Light to Life?

They Don’t Know

Jesus said, “For a brief time still, the light is among you. Walk by the light you have so darkness doesn’t destroy you. If you walk in darkness, you don’t know where you’re going. As you have the light, believe in the light. Then the light will be within you, and shining through your lives. You’ll be children of light.”
Walk in the light. Walk in the light.  Walk in the light.
Sometimes I have to say this over and over again as the world throws one thing after another at me every day.  Work can be such a stretch of the patience sometimes.  The grocery store can be a breeding ground for the darkness of the world.  Driving can bring a rage we just don’t like to dwell in.  Relatives going in the wrong direction can just rub us like sandpaper.  The kids doing the wrong things. School just wearing us out.  Sigh!  Life. It just keeps rolling on by and we have a choice to react or respond to all the situations which pop up.
Jesus was delivered to this earth to bring Light to darkness.  If we accept Jesus to be our personal savior then we accept the Light and it becomes the avenue to leading others to Christ.  In every situation we have to choose to use the light to expose the darkness.  We need to be so focused on Jesus that His Light just becomes a constant flow in our lives.
Coming up soon Revival Warrior’s, a dance group the Lord had me start, will be performing for the first time.  As this group has changed and evolved many times in the last few weeks, I know God is at work in all of us and at different levels.  He is working on so many aspects of human life it is almost crazy.  Insecurities.  Shyness.  Leadership. Teamwork. Stage fright.  Fear of failing.  Fear of making too many mistakes.  Fear of imperfection.  Getting people out of their boxes.
All of these things will shape us more and more into what God desires for us.  As we yield to God and mesh as a dance team for Jesus, He will remove the imperfections and the impurities we may have in our hearts.  When we come to performance day if we just focus on Jesus and Him alone, the whole dance will fall into place and the hearts of the people in the meeting will be touched by Jesus, not us.

Black and White vs Color

Philippians 3:13

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,
How many of us are defined by our past?  How many times do we allow our past mistakes to invade our new found freedoms in Christ?  But, I don’t deserve a promotion, I failed ten years ago at my first job.  I don’t deserve a loving spouse, I was never nice in my other relationships.  So many times we don’t let ourselves be free to shine because we don’t think we can ever fully let go of the past.
As a side kicker, we also often hold our new relationships accountable to our past experiences.  If we did not trust men in the past, sometimes we don’t trust our husbands.  Often men have been so abused by past relations that they find it hard to receive love.  I sometimes have to remind my husband that I am not those girls from his past when he gets stuck in a rut of feeling sorry for himself.  The past can so blind us from the joy that is right in front of us.  I assure you that Satan delights in the moment when we can only see past regrets instead of new life and peace.
God created us to love and this means we are also suppose to love ourselves.  I know, that’s a tough pill for some of us to swallow, yet I know this to be true.  If we can barely muster enough love for ourselves to get us through another day, then how can we possibly love someone else as God intends?  The reality of the situation is that if we hide our true self’s in the darkness of the past, no one will ever see that there is color in our lives.
What if we just started each day with a simple sentence, “Good Morning Lord, today I am choosing to love myself so that I may be able to love others as You have designed me to do.”  Perhaps if we made a commitment right now for the next 30 days to say that first thing when we wake up, I wonder if it would make a difference in our lives.  Would it change our atmosphere?  Would people see something different in our lives?  Would we finally be able to accept that God’s love was meant for us too?
I will take this challenge with you.  For the next 30 days wake up and say you choose to love yourself.  I bet a change will start to happen.  You will begin to feel a love for others that perhaps was never there before.  I feel the more we begin to love who we are in Christ the less the past will invade our space in today.  Are you ready to love you?  Are you able to come to the full realization that your past can simply stay behind you?  If so, take the challenge and let me know if you notice a difference in your life 30 days from now.

Lost in Space

Psalm 107:4

Some wandered in the wilderness, lost and homeless.
Psalm 119:176

I have wandered away like a lost sheep; come and find me, for I have not forgotten your commands.
Some of God’s people are so lost, yet they seem to have no understanding that they are actually lost.  It’s almost as if they are in a trance, lost in a space of time we cannot see.  Their lives are dictated by television and life’s circumstances rather than the love of God.
They seem to have no clue that they are really lost in this world of destruction.  They allow people to tell them where to go and how they should live rather than seeking God for all of the answers.  It seems as if they have lost all control of who they once were in Christ.
My heart cries for the lost.  The little lambs of God who have wandered away in drugs, alcohol, pornography, cutting, adultery, stealing and so many other sins whether done is public view or in secret.  It just brings me to tears when I see the destruction Satan has done in the hearts of God’s people.  People who once were filled with such joy are brought down so close to devastation that hope is just squeezed out of them.  There is not one ounce of hope left in some of them.  They are shrouded in a darkness with no hope of ever seeing light again.
I was once one of those lost sheep.  I was saved very early in life yet I let Satan have one piece of me at a time.  First it was smoking, then drinking followed by sleeping around in search of someone to love me.  Then I married without God even being there.  I spent years wondering how I even ended up in such a place void of life.  Where had the light gone? I used to be so happy.  My life was joyous and then suddenly it became so empty and routine.  I no longer enjoyed my days it was just one struggle after another.  Yes, I was one of those people lost in space, hopeless and lost in a void.
Thank God, Jesus was searching for me.  He pursued me even when I denied His presence.  He stood by me in every situation but the darkness surrounding me did not allow me to see Him.  I felt like I was just left behind to fend for myself since I was the one who chose this path.  Why would God even bother to come searching for me?  I was the one in the wrong, He did not push me away, I chose to walk a way.  I was responsible for they emptiness which now surrounded me, why should He be coming to find me?
Why?  Because He loved me enough to never give up hope.  He loved me enough to bring people into my life to love me right where I was, no judging.  He loved me enough to want something better for my life than what I had chosen.  As I stood there hopeless, I felt His presence one day as I called out into the darkness.  There was a loophole in Satan’s plan and the people of God broke through.  I was rescued and made whole again.  I was brought back to God’s family and filled with hope.  As my once shattered heart was placed back together, God in His grace gave me life again and for this I am forever grateful.
Now that I am back where I am suppose to be, I want to give this hope to others.  I want to help Jesus find the lost sheep and give them hope.  If by grace I was brought back into the light then I want to have the same grace God has for His people.  I want to give hope to the hopeless and allow God to breathe life into what once was dead.  I want to show people that grace is sufficient.  I want to inspire people to love again.  I want to show people how to keep the faith alive in their lives.  I want to be able to encourage people to never give up on God because He will never give up on them.

Breaking Darkness

I usually only post poetry in the Poetry Cloud, however this one is of major importance for me right now.  I have been feeling out of sorts lately and just all around struggling with things.  I am frustrated with my situation, yet I know God is speaking life into it.  I just have not been myself lately so tonight I began to follow the sun rays.  Sun rays were for me I was once told during a prayer time shortly after separating from my husband.  Every time I see them I am just filled with love.  Another sign of God’s love for me is deer.  Whenever I see deer, I am filled with hope and I know things are headed in the right direction.  Well as I was following the sun rays trying to capture a good picture in the freezing wind, I was led to the shore of Lake Michigan where I was lured to the Lighthouse rocks trying to capture shots of the waves crashing against them.  In a sudden moment I was swept up in a moment of release and in a split second as I decided to give it all to God I was freed from my chains I was currently wearing.  In an instant I felt the darkness leave and hope return.  In that one moment of time my joy was replenished and I could see straight again, breathe better and begin to see there was still hope.  As I left the lake I encountered two deer on a ridge.  One male, one female and to me they spoke unity and restoration in that moment of time!  Praise God for His continued goodness!

Psalm 107:14 He led them from the darkness and deepest gloom; he snapped their chains.

Breaking Darkness

 I followed the rays

light raining from the clouds

I sought You

I searched for You

wanting escape from this

darkness surrounding me

Wandering in a fog

not seeing the good

only dwelling on the disaster

feeling lost and alone

unable to shake the shroud of

darkness surrounding me

For days turning into weeks

it bound me to despair

encasing me in a fog

trapped in a sea of doubt, this

darkness surrounding me

Longing for release

I entered a searching journey

I sought after the rays

knowing they were for me

having been designed to bring me from this

darkness surrounding me

I followed them diligently

I went after in delight

the rays led me to the wind

which showed me the waves

telling me it was okay to leave the

darkness surrounding me

I stood at the edge

the water crashing waves at me

the wind whipping my hair

beckoning me to let go

to give it all in this moment, freeing me from the

darkness surrounding me

In a moment

I was swept away

caught in the fury of the wind

flooded by the waves of water

renewed by His presence

releasing me from the

darkness surrounding me

God swooped down

grabbed the chains

snapped them and carried them away

taking my breath away

freeing me from the extended

darkness surrounding me

I stood at the edge

the freezing waters receding

the sand ceased its’ movement

suddenly through the clouds

the sun came through in a haze of red

R E D E M P T I O N!

Gone was the

Darkness surrounding me

replaced by glory

Light flooded my being

freedom had returned

joy was replacing the

darkness that surrounded me!

I could walk again

I could breathe once more

Hope returned to me

we walked together

hand in hand

breaking darkness!

Right in Sight!

Matthew 24:43
But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.

It is not for us to fully understand why things happen, yet events happen right in front of us when we are full and present in the midst of it.  The Bible clearly states that the enemy comes to seek and destroy, sometimes it is right in front of our eyes and we do not see it.  How many things has the enemy stolen from you while you were fully awake and aware of your surroundings?  Have you ever been so caught up in what you were doing that you missed a major issue in your life?  Often we think because we are Christians that we are exempt from the “bad” things in life, not so, bad things happen all around us and sometimes we are in the midst of it and do not realize it.

I speak these words because tonight while playing an innocent game of volleyball with some girlfriends, a thief came into the indoor volleyball court and stole an employee’s purse while we were right there.  Did we see the person who did this?  Nope and there were nine of us all together playing volleyball while the only employee had gone to an upper part of the building to use a computer for ten minutes.  I can not explain the confusion that encumbered all of us.  How did we miss him?  Why had we not at least heard something?  Now granted we did not have a clear view of the front desk, yet it just seems like one of us would have noticed something out of the ordinary.  The purse was located in a dumpster nearby and her keys were found along with eight dollars cash, but her camera and wallet were gone.  The thief had accomplished what he set out to do and he did while we were all awake and in a well-lit area.

How does the enemy do this?  Let’s take this senerio of the thief coming into a building where there were four cars in the parking lot, well-light areas and obviously people could catch him at any moment, and place it into our lives.  How many times do couples find themselves in divorce?  One day they are in love head over heels and then a few years down the road they can barely speak to each other.  A thief has come and stolen what they had for it knew where they were headed….true joy.  A child is born and raised by good people and then one day is strung out on drugs, not having a clue how this came to be.  A thief came in and poked at a hurt in the persons life and now has stolen what joy could have come.  A Christian is following God and obeying His word and suddenly finds himself growing distant and cold with God, challenging every thing about his Creator.  A thief came in and right in front of him, began to send doubts his ways, causing disbelief. Satan needs not to wait until the dark of night to do his evil business, he can perform it right in front of us and we can’t even see it.

Can you see how many times this thief has just come in the middle of our lives and destroyed what was good?  This is how Satan works.  Not always stealing in the middle of the night while we are sleeping, he comes while we are awake and fully aware of our surroundings.  This is why we need to be on guard at all times and prepared with the knowledge of the things of God so that we will not be distracted or destroyed.  If a man knew the thief was coming, would he not prepare his heart and mind for such an event?  I urge you to hold fast to the things of God and saturate not your life with the things of this world so that you may not become like the many who have fallen into Satan’s traps.  Daily renew your mind in the things of God and find yourself in the Word daily.  Put on the full armor of God so Satan can not easily deceive you.
