Just a Bunch of Rocks

Luke 19:28-40

The Message (MSG)

God’s Personal Visit

28-31 After saying these things, Jesus headed straight up to Jerusalem. When he got near Bethphage and Bethany at the mountain called Olives, he sent off two of the disciples with instructions: “Go to the village across from you. As soon as you enter, you’ll find a colt tethered, one that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it. If anyone says anything, asks, ‘What are you doing?’ say, ‘His Master needs him.’”

32-33 The two left and found it just as he said. As they were untying the colt, its owners said, “What are you doing untying the colt?”

34 They said, “His Master needs him.”

35-36 They brought the colt to Jesus. Then, throwing their coats on its back, they helped Jesus get on. As he rode, the people gave him a grand welcome, throwing their coats on the street.

37-38 Right at the crest, where Mount Olives begins its descent, the whole crowd of disciples burst into enthusiastic praise over all the mighty works they had witnessed:

Blessed is he who comes,
    the king in God’s name!
All’s well in heaven!
    Glory in the high places!

39 Some Pharisees from the crowd told him, “Teacher, get your disciples under control!”

40 But he said, “If they kept quiet, the stones would do it for them, shouting praise.”

I am a rock.  You are a rock.  Here a rock.  There a rock.  Everywhere a rock, rock!!  Sorry that’s just what came in to my head as God told me to write about rocks today.  He showed me this vast quarry filled with tons and tons of rocks. Some were big, some small.  Some tiny and some massive.  Colors of every kind could be found among these rocks.  They had different shapes and sizes.  Some were sharp while others were smooth as silk. Some were even both rough and smooth.  Some were even broken.  Many of these rocks were saturated in the water while others lay out upon the dry sandy ground.  No matter where the rocks were located, they were being worked on.

Does this look anything like our Christian society today?  Some of us are rough around the edges while others are smooth.  We all come in different shapes and sizes AND we come from all different places.  Do you see the picture?  God wants us to see the whole picture I think and it goes back to the saying “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover”, we could say the same thing about these rocks.  We should not be judging a rock by is size, shape or color or even where it came from.  Our journey with rocks this week will unveil the meaning of how we are transformed constantly.  Each of is a work in progress and God is not done with any of us!

Your Gift is on This Side of the Fence

Ecclesiastes 4:4

Then I observed all the work and ambition motivated by envy. What a waste! Smoke. And spitting into the wind.
“The grass is greener on the other side of the fence.”  How many times have we heard this statement?  We as humans always seem to want what the other person has.  We want to “keep up with the Jones’s” .  Sometimes people want what others have just because they think they will never get it for themselves.  Others want what others possess because they are jealous.
Another reason for us wanting another persons gift is that we don’t realize we have one of our own.  I wish I could preach like that! I wish I could write a book!  I wish I could sew an outfit!  I wish I was crafty.   I wish I could cook a gourmet meal!! I wish I could style my hair like hers!  I wish.  I wish.  I wish.  How many times do we speak these things or at least think the thoughts?  We get so wrapped up in what we can’t do that we forget to search for our own gift.
For me, I have known for a long time I like to write.  I wrote tons of poems in middle and high school.  I took creative writing classes and I even received a scholarship from my writing to attend college.  Did I believe I was a writer? Nope.  When my friend said to start a blog I was nervous.  Who is going to read it?  When I began to write my first book again I was doubting its success.
We need to come to realize we all have a special gift which God gives to us the moment we begin life.  Some people spend their whole lives not knowing what their gift is or they have it in their possession and do nothing with it.  I have chosen to take my writing as far as I can.  I have tried to be dedicated to writing a blog every week…yes I have failed at times but I just keep trying.
I attended a powerful conference just recently and a Man of God prayed over me.  He stood back and looked sternly at me and asked me if I knew I was in a place of influence.  I agreed that I was concerning my job, however I thought that was the only area.  He prayed that God would place the mantle of influence over my life and that He would begin to show me my areas of influence.
My first glimpse of this was yesterday when I was just going over my stats here on WordPress.  There is this map which shows how many different countries have read my writing.  I was reminded that about 3 years ago it was prophesied into my life that my writings would touch the nations.  I shrugged it off not really believing this to be true until yesterday that it is.  I discovered that people from 65 different nations have read my blog.
I stood there is awe of what God can do.  The only thing I have to do with this is obedience.  I opened my gift and used it and in return God has blessed me.  I encourage you today to find and open your gift.  I know you have one.  What has God given to you for the nations?  How has He equipped you to do His will here on earth?

Pick Me! Pick Me!! PICK ME!!!!

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He GAVE us His only Son so that whosoever believes in Him shall have life eternal.

How many times in our lives to we stand in places where we are chosen?  Getting a job.  Participating in the school drama.  Being picked in elementary school for the dodge ball team.  Entering a contest.  Waiting to be picked for someone’s prom date.  Waiting to be chosen as a wife or husband.  So many areas in our life for disappointments.  Everso many chances for woundness.  Opportunities for Satan to enter into our world and have his way.  How lucky are we that God will always choose us?

I think there are some persons reading this that just need to get this in their spirit.  Because He LOVED us FIRST, He gave us life!  Abundant life is at our fingertips.  Because He LOVED us FIRST, He gave us a free will.  We have the ability to choose Him for our lives when He already has chosen us for His own.  Because He LOVED us FIRST, we get to inherit ALL of the things He promises in the Bible.  So why do we feel so unloved and unchosen?  Perhaps it was our past lives before we knew Jesus.  Maybe we still have it stuck in our heads that no one picked us for the dodge ball team in third grade and therefore, we are not worthy of ever being picked for anything, especially the work of the Kingdom.

BECAUSE He loved us He gave us life and life abundant.  Get this into your spirit.  Stop what you are doing right now and repeat that like a bizzilion times.  He loves you.  He desires to be in a relationship with you.  No man or woman on this earth can give you what God has to offer.  Your healing does not come from a book or time or doctors….your inner healing only comes from Jesus.  When we accept Jesus as our PERSONAL Savior, we are made new.  Our old life is passed away and we are free to choose to love again.  As new creations in Christ it’s like we have a fresh new start.  We get to choose a new life of abundant love .

Today..choose Jesus.  Today…accept your inheritance.  Today….begin to take hold of yourself as a new Creation.  Move forward  from this moment and dive into what God has in store for you.  Begin your new life with the knowledge that it is His choice to love you.  It is His choice to give you abundance.  It is His choice to show you love like you have never seen or felt it before.  Choose today to be a new Creation in Love and choose to take up your inheritance and run with God. Choose to be Loved!!!

Skip the Chapter!

1 Corinthians 11:25

In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.”
When one is writing a book, they usually go chapter by chapter, connecting words into sentences and paragraphs all the while telling a story.  A story perhaps about their life or a how to book or maybe a documentary, but the main point is to tell a complete story chapter by chapter.  This too is how we often live our life, we say we are going to start a new chapter and I am here merely today to suggest, why don’t we start a new book instead?
Chapters are good but it means you are still in the same story, nothing really has changed in your life is what you are saying.  If you start a new book then it will be more exciting.  Let’s take a person who has stopped drinking.  The said person has now closed the book on a life of alcohol abuse and is now starting  a whole new era in life instead of just adding a chapter to the past.  Does that make sense?  As interested as a person could be in seeing how the story ends, sometimes they are even more excited about opening a new book!
Jesus did the same thing for us when He died for us on the cross.  When He crucified His flesh the ways of the Old Testament were made new with the covenant of Grace, no longer are we bound by the past commandments.  We have been given grace and it is sufficient for all things.  Yes, if we are following after Jesus and aspiring to become more Christlike, we should have not desire to swear, dishonor our parents, lie, murder, have false Gods and all those other temptations.  We have been given a whole new book to read, the New Testament.
So are you ready to start a new chapter or does your heart desire to start a new book?  Are you tired of the same old same old?  Is it time to really seek God and say you are done with the old way of thinking?  I encourage all of us to begin a new book in our Christian walk, take a new approach to our old thinking, press further into the things God has planned for us.  Go ahead, close the book on the past and begin writing a new story today!
