1 Corinthians 13
The Message (MSG)
The Way of Love
13 If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.
2 If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.
3-7 If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
So we talked about finding seeds, receiving seeds and giving seeds to others, but what about the seed that is in you? Remember that day when someone asked you if you knew Jesus? Then that moment when everything just seemed to make sense about love and God? Ah Ha! That moment the seed took root! That happy moment when you just knew beyond the shadow of doubt everything was going to be okay. For me I was 6 and attending a vacation Bible school with my neighbors. I can see it in my mind as if it was yesterday. The day I took the seed from the man who was calling us to invite Jesus into our hearts, oh what a happy day!
So what did I do with that seed? I began to go to church wherever I could. I began to get to know God and what He was all about. I even convinced a few friends here and there to meet my Jesus and as I got older I kinda just set that seed aside while I tried life on my own. All along I knew God. I knew what He did for me. I knew that He was my provider. I knew He loved me enough to let me go and do my own thing for awhile. Here I am years later, divorced and remarried and I still know all those things about God. So how did I do on my own? Eh…it was like playing the lottery..you win and your happy so you don’t need any help but when you are losing and broke you cry out to God for help of any kind.
What have I learned in those lost years? That God is a restore of all things. Even if we make wrong choices we can be led right back to God and His ways of providing for us. I finally learned not too long ago how to rest in Him. If things are already planned out like it says in Jeremiah 29:11 then we just have to wait on God to direct our paths. We need to be still and quiet to hear His still small voice. Once we hear that voice we are off to the races! We begin to pursue thos things which God gave to us. As for me, I am at a crossroads per say. I want to move forward with my books and begin sharing the Good News by public speaking, yet I am waiting on God’s timing. All I can say my friends is know, rest and pursue. These are the three things to a successful life!
For God so loved the world that He GAVE us His only Son so that whosoever believes in Him shall have life eternal.
How many times in our lives to we stand in places where we are chosen? Getting a job. Participating in the school drama. Being picked in elementary school for the dodge ball team. Entering a contest. Waiting to be picked for someone’s prom date. Waiting to be chosen as a wife or husband. So many areas in our life for disappointments. Everso many chances for woundness. Opportunities for Satan to enter into our world and have his way. How lucky are we that God will always choose us?
I think there are some persons reading this that just need to get this in their spirit. Because He LOVED us FIRST, He gave us life! Abundant life is at our fingertips. Because He LOVED us FIRST, He gave us a free will. We have the ability to choose Him for our lives when He already has chosen us for His own. Because He LOVED us FIRST, we get to inherit ALL of the things He promises in the Bible. So why do we feel so unloved and unchosen? Perhaps it was our past lives before we knew Jesus. Maybe we still have it stuck in our heads that no one picked us for the dodge ball team in third grade and therefore, we are not worthy of ever being picked for anything, especially the work of the Kingdom.
BECAUSE He loved us He gave us life and life abundant. Get this into your spirit. Stop what you are doing right now and repeat that like a bizzilion times. He loves you. He desires to be in a relationship with you. No man or woman on this earth can give you what God has to offer. Your healing does not come from a book or time or doctors….your inner healing only comes from Jesus. When we accept Jesus as our PERSONAL Savior, we are made new. Our old life is passed away and we are free to choose to love again. As new creations in Christ it’s like we have a fresh new start. We get to choose a new life of abundant love .
Today..choose Jesus. Today…accept your inheritance. Today….begin to take hold of yourself as a new Creation. Move forward from this moment and dive into what God has in store for you. Begin your new life with the knowledge that it is His choice to love you. It is His choice to give you abundance. It is His choice to show you love like you have never seen or felt it before. Choose today to be a new Creation in Love and choose to take up your inheritance and run with God. Choose to be Loved!!!
New Living Translation (NLT)
14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.
The world is going to end! The bombs will invade America any day now! The hurricane will wipe out many cities! Many wounded in a school shooting, several found dead! Theft runs rapid in inner cities! So many ugly, ugly things on television and on the radio stations. Everyday we get the opportunity to read about such sad events in the local newspapers. By the time we get to work in the morning we could be flooded with so many fears about our futures that we would have rather just stayed home and prepared for the worst.
I remember when 911 happened. I was at work in a local McDonald’s and one of our employees was a volunteer fireman and his radio went off. This was before we had televisions in our lobbies, so we went into our crew room to watch what was happening on this tiny little tv. The horror of what was happening was just sickening to our stomachs, as we watched so many people in a terrible situation. Shortly after this happened, churches all over America were filled to overflowing with people. They were looking for answers, searching for some peace for the situation at hand.
What happened to all those people? How many of them are still seeking God? How many of them really fed into the Word of God? I pray that God touched the lives of many during this tragic event. I pray that those who came to seek refuge will once again return to what God has to offer them. We as Christians need to come to the understand that we need to stay in the Word so as not to be blown in any different direction by the things of this world.
Yes the Bible says the end is coming. It will come when Jesus returns to this earth to bring us up to heaven. Yes disasters will occur after we are caught up. Yes things will be very terrible here on the earth for those who have chosen not to accept Jesus as their personal Savior. So what are we as Christians going to do about it while we are here? Stock up for the next big disaster? Shut ourselves in our homes and just wait for Jesus to arrive? Or are we going to do our part and share the love of Jesus wherever we go on this earth?
My husband and I try to set aside date nights and for some reason or another, God always opens doors for us on those particular days to minister to His people. He will set people in our paths over and over again just so we can open the door to their salvation by simply sharing Jesus. We are honored to be given such encounters and opportunities and God always rewards us in the end. Sure we could choose to just ignore what God sets before us but we both know there are so many people God wants to bring into His Kingdom and when we take Jesus in, we need to share Him with everyone we meet.
Hosea 4: 6 (KJV) My people perish from a lack of knowledge.
Ever wonder why we do not have time to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives? Why are we too busy to do the two things God asked us to do: Love one another as He loves and spread the Gospel? I feel like two things are to blame for this, one being Satan busy distracting us and the other, our lack of knowledge in the Word. Now I am not attacking anyone at all because I am not fully proficient in the Word myself and perhaps it is time for me to step up my game.
God instructs us not to become conformed to this world but to grow in the renewing of our minds by the reading of His Word. Sometimes in day to day living we get too busy to even pop open the Bible to read a verse or two. As for myself I get excited about a devotional only to find myself a week later “too busy” to keep up with it. I also like to use the excuse of being in revival meeting four times a week and that’s where I get the Word.
Another aspect of being too busy for knowledge is that we get caught up in the news media and television. We get so interested in what is going on all around us, we forget to focus on the very thing that God has right in front of us. Yes some of us are gifted to help those who need rescuing from disasters and those who need specialized care in certain circumstances. He does not design all of us with the same giftings, if He had we would be so busy helping the disaster victims that we would have a world full of depressed and broken hearted people with no one to help them.
Do you see the picture I am trying to paint? People all around us are saying we are in the end times and the world is at it’s worst, but what are we doing to save the world? What will save the people of this world is Jesus and if we just do the two things we were instructed to do, everything else will just fit like puzzle pieces and God will protect those who are under His wing of protection.
I myself need to dig a little deeper into God’s Word so that I may be filled with the knowledge that will allow me to life my life to the fullest. When we read His Word we hide it in our hearts and it will stay there for eternity. When we read the Bible we are filled with hope and we learn to discern what are giftings really are. Yes this world is a crazy place but when we have the peace that passes all understanding, we are able to push through and accomplish the tasks God sets out for our lives. Choose today to seek His knowledge and begin to life a life of freedom in Jesus.
